Recent Updates

It's been ages since I last updated my blog. Iv'e been a bit busy working on some really cool projects. Sadly I can't share them with anybody yet. As soon as I can, I'll post them here and on my website. I'm also working on a small animated short and a few new character designs.

Creative Boom

At the beginning of October, the nice folk at Creative Boom featured me on their website. You can take a look here.

Creative Boom is an excellent online magazine showcasing talented creatives, networking events, creative jobs and plenty more. I highly recommend having a look at Creative Boom, and perhaps getting involved too.

Storybird

I am also really pleased to tell you I have recently been given an online shop on StoryBird. If you are unfamiliar with Storybird, it's a fantastic website that allows children, teachers and families to create children's books from a huge variety of illustrations. You can share your stories online with friends and family. You can also get your stories printed and sent to you so you can keep them forever. It's great to see lots of people having fun creating stories with my artwork. I'm really pleased with the ideas and stories created using my illustrations. You can have a look at my shop here and begin creating your own stories.

BAF

This Friday (12th November), I'm attending BAF 10 (Bradford Animation Festival). I'm really looking forward to the talks, workshops and overdosing on plenty of animated shorts.

Should be fun! :)

Colonel Windpipe's Musical Brigade

I've just submitted my character for the Colonel Windpipe's Musical Brigade collaboration. I chose to create a rather dead looking zombie aimlessly bashing his drum. The project has been set up by illustrators uberkraaft and Lesley Barnes and will eventually become a large printed project.

You can see my artwork and all the other talented artists contributions in the Flickr pool here

You can also read the Colonel Windpipe blog here

Enjoy :)

New Website!

Happy days! - I have a new website! :)

My website redesign has been something I've wanted to do for quite awhile now. I realised that most people just don't have the time or patience to look at every single page on a website. Therefore I wanted to have a simplified design to show my artwork.

So...

I got cracking designing the layout whilst my friend Tom Rhode's coded the site.

I'm very happy with the new design and think Tom did an ace job. Check it out here: Jevs Illustration

On that note, if you would like to follow me and/or Tom on Twitter, head here:

Also, if you're on 5oup or coroflot then please add me :)

All the best,

Chris

Toe Fluff News

I'm happy to tell you that my Toe Fluff character has been selected to be shown at the gallery in Swindon starting 31st July. Toe Fluff is a character created by the talented illustrator, Steve Rack. In April, Steve allowed illustrators and designers across the country to submit their own Toe Fluff character.

Over 200 talented illustrators submitted their designs creating a whole range of weird and wonderful characters. A selection of Toe Fluffs have been chosen (including mine!) and will be on display throughout next month.

Details on the event can be found here: http://www.toefluff.co.uk/show/

Pictoplasma 2010

I went on a two week break with my girlfriend to Paris followed by a trip to Berlin this April. We attended Pictoplasma Contemporary Character Design Festival held at the Babylon Theatre in the heart of Berlin. The festival was excellent with fantastic talks and screenings from animators and artists from all over the world. The event was very inspirational and enjoyable and we hope to return next year. You can find out more info here: http://festival.pictoplasma.com/

Berlin was a great city to explore with plenty of things to do and see. The people are very friendly and the food and drink is excellent. I can't wait to go again!

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust

I Illustrated a brochure and created the above logo for The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust working with UBD Studio. The artwork spreads across both sides of the leaflet and shows a beach and underwater scene.

Feedback from YWT was very positive and I hope to work with them and UBD Studio again in the future.

York Professionals Exhibition Stand

I recently collaborated with the good folks at United By Design to create an exhibition stand and leaflets for York Professionals VentureFest 2010 stand. The process involved creating different business characters such as IT Support, PR and Legal in Adobe Illustrator. The design was finished in Indesign by UBD Studio.

The exhibition stand and leaflets was very well received and helped York Professionals have a successful day at VentureFest event.

in the images above, you can see three of the vector characters, a photo of the various leaflets and a rather blurry photo of the stand taken on my iPhone at the exhibition.

Christmas Time!

Jevs Illustration has been very busy working on a few Christmas related projects this festive season. This includes a printed Christmas Card and animated web banner for Applied Web Analytics. Also, after the success of the welcome card created for YSJ University in August, I have been asked by the Vice Chancellor to create this years animated ecard. My brief was to create a cute and fun Christmas scene that YSJ can send out to all their important contacts.

The card has been a success and YSJ are very happy with animation. Below you can see an image from the YSJ ecard and the printed AWA card.

Merry Christmas!
